Safety First at Kids' Fest!
April 11, 2011
From the moment you arrive on Granville Island we’ll make sure you have the best field trip ever.

Safety has always been a priority at the Children's Festival, and you can look forward to new measures to make sure everyone has fun on Granville Island.

Welcome Teachers!

To welcome you and your students onto Granville Island, a Teacher's Kiosk will be located next to the bus drop off and pick up area (see map) where we recommend everyone meets, even if not arriving onto the island by bus, and where you will meet your dedicated hosts.

We are happy to provide you with up to four dedicated Festival Hosts who will accompany your group throughout the day to help you with:

- Site Orientation

- Getting to and from your show venue

- Recommending age appropriate activities

BENEFITS OF GRANVILLE ISLAND

FOR SCHOOL GROUPS

All activities are close to the show venues

The Festival's activities and four performance venues are centred around the south side of Granville Island with the other two venues,  the Granville Island Stage and the Aquabus Ferry (see map), on the north side of Granville Island.

For each show ticket purchased you and your students will receive an activity wristband that entitles you to entry to all site activities.

Food Services

There are plenty of food options close to all our venues on Granville Island.  In addition, we are pleased to offer several Festival vendors in Railspur Park in the picnic area.

There will be a covered lunch area in the picnic tent near the food vendors.  Or take in the entertainment at the Coast Capital Savings World Youth Stage (100 seats under cover) while you eat your lunch.

Weather permitting, picnic tables will be located in Sutcliffe Park.

Washrooms

Toilet facilities are in all venues.  See map for additional locations.

Safety

Traffic Crossing Guards

Traffic moves at a snail's pace on Granville Island, but to ensure everyone enjoys their day we will be stationing colourful crossing guards at key points along Cartwright Street and close to the Granville Island Stage to help you get around safely.

First Aid & Lost Children

There will be a First Aid tent to attend to any accidental bumps and skinned knees.  The Festival will work closely with Granville Island Operations to help lost children find their group.

We hope we've thought of everything to make sure you have a safe and fun field trip, but if you have any questions at all just give us a holler at 604.708.5655.
