Under One Beat Aboriginal Drumming Installation reflects artist Luke Parnell's knowledge as a cultural carver and his western sculpture and installation art practice. "In a cultural Northwest coast dance group, the box drum sets the rhythm for the whole group, I think of this installation as a way to bring people together. The images of First nations living in Vancouver throughout its 125 year history is in my mind a way of remembering the past so we can move into the future." Luke Parnell is an artist of Nisga’a and Haida descent; he apprenticed with master carver Henry Green and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design. Luke actively participates in his community as a cultural singer, drummer and dancer. He is well known for his carving abilities and is currently a Master of Applied Arts candidate at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
